Job Summary
Performs lawenforcement and police department duties involving the protection of life andproperty through the enforcement of state laws and university rules andregulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible forperforming law enforcement activities; to include but not limited to enforcingfederal, state, and local laws and USM rules and regulations.
  2. Responds to all emergencycalls involving crimes, disturbances, accidents, personal injuries, fires,and natural disasters.
  3. Responsible forinvestigating crimes and violations of USM rules and regulations,accidents, etc.
  4. Engages with thecommunity in proactive police activities to prevent crimes, disorder,property loss, accidents, etc.
  5. Responsible for providinga wide range of community services involving traffic and crowd control,security at special events, crisis intervention, referrals, escorts,motorist assistance, public information, emergency notification, andmedical assistance.
  6. Performs other duties asassigned.


Minimum Qualifications

HighSchool graduate or equivalent G.E.D. ValidMississippi Driver's License. MississippiLaw Enforcement Certification or graduate of a Mississippi Law EnforcementTraining Academy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability touse a personal computer and associated software, police radio, firearms,investigative equipment and resources, photographic and video equipment, basicoffice equipment.
  • Ability touse spreadsheet software and use of video and other software applications.
  • Basicknowledge and skill within Windows-based computer and software applications, toinclude Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to use email to send andreceive correspondence, proficiency in use of search engines.
  • Strongcommunication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications

Associate'sDegree and/or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Six monthsto one year of patrol officer experience with a law enforcement agency.
