Manages: Accountant I, Accountant II – Bookkeeper, Accountant II – Accounting Clerks, Cashiers/Member Services Representatives
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the annual operating and capital budgets and presents budgets to the Board of Directors
Analyzes the financial position of the cooperative and ensures it is in good standing with financial requirements including the preparation of financial forecast and providing cost of service data
Works with, advises and assists on any plans, procedures or problems related to the financial state or accounting function of the cooperative
Provides data load forecast and reviews forecast results
Develops short- and long-range financial plans including cash management plans and equity management plans
Prepares cash flow projections, system operating budget and financial and statistical reports
Completes and maintains records and documents for loan applications and loan draws
Collects, calculates and oversees data for the month-end process including, but not limited to, payroll overheads, all journals, transportation, depreciation, taxes, trial balance, income statements, miles of line, sales and revenue, large power accounts, purchased power, Director expenses, capital credits and reports
Ensures the performance of, and approves all, banking transactions, vendor payments and loan/line of credit payments
Authorizes all banking and payment transactions
Ensures general ledger accounts, month-end sales reports, capital credit data and bank statements are balanced each month
Creates and compiles monthly and annual reports for the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors and Annual Meeting
Manages the accounting and reporting of economic development loans and grants
Works with auditors to complete and review annual audits and resolve any issues discovered in said audits
Makes recommendations on the selection and serves as the principal contact with external audit firms
Ensures supervised employees stay up to date with emerging trends in the areas of accounting, payroll, finance and budgeting
Assigns projects to supervised employees and ensures work is completed timely and accurately, assisting and training employees as needed
Manages the accounting and reporting of plant assets
Qualifications and Knowledge:
Must have a bachelor's degree in business administration, management or accounting, and a master's degree in a business-related field is preferred with CPA certification a huge plus.
Must have three years of qualifying and progressively responsible experience
Must possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and procedures to develop financial plans and strategies and establish and direct the accounting for assets
Must possess knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, insurance and risk management, and knowledge of plant account is preferred
Must be able to work independently and organize work to meet deadlines
Must be skilled in the organization, planning, directing and coordinating of an accounting and finance department
Must be able to prepare a variety of technical, administrative and management reports
Must learn and understand cooperative's policies, procedures, rates, regulations, other rules and approved practices
Must be able to develop and maintain accurate, detailed records
Must utilize a computer with word processing and spreadsheets and use other standard office equipment
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be able to learn other computer applications crucial to the position
Must be skilled in training, motivating and evaluating supervised employees in order to obtain the highest degree of productivity and the development of individual capabilities
Must possess the following personal characteristics: team player, high integrity, good personal habits, regular work attendance, courteous and friendly, independent judgment, able to work well with a diverse group of people, gain and maintain respect of others and project a favorable image of the cooperative
