POSITION SUMMARY: (WHAT, HOW, WHY)
Assist with the objective to provide a diverse program of therapeutic group and/or individual activities appropriate to meet the desired physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of the participant served. Areas included are community integration activities, skills training, creative expressions, music therapy, special events in program and community. Assist individuals with problem-solving skills, self-regulation and meaningful interactions to promote our mission to eliminate barriers, empower individuals and elevate human potential.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • EDUCATION: Minimum of High school diploma or GED.
  • Twenty- One years or older
EXPERIENCE:
  • Preference may be given to applicants with more experience. Preference may be given for prior experience in the DD field and /or Bachelor's degree with experience working within a DD service delivery system.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background investigations and various registry and database checks.
  • Must pass DMV check, pass road test, DOT physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random testing throughout employment.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of proper positive behavior support principles and crisis intervention.
  • Must be able to compute and record data for participant documentation
  • Training in CPR, First Aid and Goodwill's Emergency Procedures.
  • Must possess superior judgement skills in order to ensure the health, safety and well-being of adults with developmental disabilities in all settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Help facilitate planned work/recreational/volunteer programs in facility and the broader community.
  2. Address planning issues through individualized instruction and behavioral intervention to optimize skill performance and appropriate social interactions of participants.
  3. Assist in implementing individual programming and provide feedback to management & coordinators
  4. Assist in behavioral management and non-violent crisis intervention as needed.
  5. Assist with morning and afternoon transportation, helping to bring individuals in and out of program, removing hats & coats (when applicable) and putting belongings away
  6. Ensure the health and safety of the individuals served in a variety of activities and settings both in the community and the facility.
  7. Assist with documenting arrivals, as needed.
  8. Monitor participants before and after scheduled assignments to ensure safety.
  9. Run programs in small group settings in the facility and assist in community-based activities
  10. Encourage and facilitate engagement of individuals with their peers, community members during all activities.
  11. Transport individuals in company vehicles to various community outings & events
  12. Engage with participants in a meaningful and positive way to promote a sense of belonging
  13. Document daily on participant goals based on the plan instructions.
  14. Provide monitoring/ physical assistance with participant's personal care needs such as toileting, changing, feeding and related tasks.
  15. Conduct morning discussion topics and skills training classes.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

PERIODICAL DUTIES:
  • Complete annual trainings and all other compliance requirements.
  • Provide back-up coverage for other staff including personal care services.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention as needed.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
  • Assist in the safe and efficient evacuation of individuals with physical disabilities in the event of a fire or otheremergency situation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be able to move around the facility and the community and assist participants to access theseenvironments in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork both written and electronic and perform telephonecommunication.
  • Full Time 40-hour work week; part-time up to 29 hours. Various schedule at times.
    Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing personal assistance to participants.
