The Maritime System Division of Leidos is on the lookout for a motivated Junior Ocean Engineer to join our innovative team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside skilled engineers and contribute to developing cutting-edge solutions that address crucial national missions for a diverse array of clients, including the Department of Defense and various governmental agencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of a variety of sub-surface and surface electro-mechanical systems.
  • Create and revise detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings using the SolidWorks software suite.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering teams, integrating design inputs from various engineering disciplines under the mentorship of a senior engineer.
  • Independently perform assigned tasks following technical guidelines, propose solutions to engineering challenges, and participate in design reviews.
  • Prepare and review engineering change documents, test plans, and reports to ensure quality assurance.
  • Help in the production and assembly of prototype systems.
  • Engage in product verification testing to confirm compliance with specifications.
  • Test PLC-based machinery control systems, enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Bring familiarity with marine electrical equipment into practical application.

Basic Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in ocean engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the SolidWorks software suite and AutoCAD.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication.
  • Have hands-on experience using machine shop and woodworking tools (e.g., drills, saws, sanders, and more).
  • Possess U.S. Citizenship and the capability to secure a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Work effectively in team settings, clearly communicating verbal and written instructions.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to navigate both office and production environments and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience or a master's degree in ocean engineering with some relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience with unmanned maritime vehicles and corresponding sensors, underwater connectors, and marine launch/recovery systems.
  • Certification as a SolidWorks Associate (CSWA).
  • Background working in an ISO manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with composites and welding processes.
  • Familiarity with at-sea vessels and designing for maritime environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for work-related projects.
  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies, showcasing practical skill sets.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and take on a variety of projects.
