Position

Shift5 is seeking an Applied Data Scientist to join our Value Engineering team and embed with customers on our most critical projects. The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple engagements simultaneously, have a "no task too small" mindset, and have the ability to take a complex business problem, deconstruct it into testable hypotheses, and use data to deliver actionable insights.

Required
  • Ability to break down unstructured, ambiguous, and complex problems into smaller, manageable parts
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% of the time (US only).
  • Fluency in a generic analytics coding language (R, Matlab, Python, SQL)
  • Strong data needs analysis skills, including the ability to identify the type of data and technical tests required to validate hypotheses.
  • Proven ability to articulate the business impact of data analysis and connect findings to specific decision points.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of clearly and efficiently presenting technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • A humble and receptive attitude toward feedback, and the confidence to admit when you're wrong.
Preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end, independent project execution from problem definition to final deliverable.
  • Experience working with time-series data.
  • A blend of formal education and job experience in data science or a related field - ideally in a master's or doctorate program.
  • Industry experience in defense, aerospace, or cybersecurity.
