Small Engine & Diesel Mechanic - Landscaping / Land Clearing Equipment

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and dependable Small Engine & Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a variety of landscaping equipment and vehicles. This dual-role position includes servicing small engine tools (trimmers, mowers, blowers) as well as larger diesel-powered equipment (tractors, skid steers, zero-turn mowers, dump trucks, trailers, etc.). The ideal candidate is highly organized, safety-focused, and has experience with both gas and diesel engine systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Small Engine Repair Duties:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair two- and four-stroke small engines.
• Maintain and service handheld landscaping equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed trimmers, blowers).
• Sharpen blades and ensure proper functioning of small tools.
• Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, etc.).

Diesel/Heavy Equipment Duties:

• Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and hydraulics on skid steers, tractors, and zero-turn mowers.
• Maintain company vehicles (including dump trucks, trailers, and service trucks).
• Inspect and service electrical systems, brakes, suspensions, and fuel systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance schedules for all heavy and light-duty equipment.

General Responsibilities:

• Maintain detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and inventory records.
• Source and order parts as needed; track inventory levels.
• Respond to equipment failures in the field and perform mobile repairs when necessary.
• Ensure all equipment and repairs meet safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Keep shop clean, organized, and compliant with OSHA and company policies.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED; trade school or ASE certification preferred.
• 3+ years of experience working as a small engine and/or diesel mechanic.
• Proficient with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with landscape equipment brands (e.g., Exmark, Toro, John Deere, Kubota).
• Ability to use diagnostic software and tools.
• Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus but not required.
• Welding and light fabrication skills a bonus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks regularly.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, standing, kneeling, and working under vehicles and equipment.
