Service Product Support Engineer

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for service and support system identification and development of all commercial service group-impacting product lines. The PSE participates in every stage of new product development, ensuring serviceability, quality management system documentation and maintenance, and ease-of-repair at the point of product design. Following product release, the PSE is liaison between the end customer and internal Medtronic support teams, which include Sales and Marketing, Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality. The PSE works closely with Engineering to address customer-facing issues and coordinates with Service teams globally, ensuring common approaches to product service and repair.

Location: Carlsbad, CA or Remote

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Leverage service and biomedical engineering-based technical expertise supporting development projects and feasibility studies
  • Work closely within project teams, including internal and external stakeholders, in requirements gathering and serviceability design
  • Facilitate and resolve both complex, isolated issues and recurring themes escalated by internal and external customers
  • Consistently meet internal and external customer requirements, standards, and regulations
  • Communicate external biomedical engineers' and Medtronic Field Service Engineers' needs to the design team
  • Maintain and drive new product design quality
  • Ensure product designs are serviceable, cost effective and meet customer needs
  • Collaborate with R&D, Sales and Marketing, Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Senior Management
  • Define necessary diagnostics and service troubleshooting needs for new features and products
  • Interact with global teams to promote consistency and maximize synergies across assigned product platforms
  • Define and implement productivity and quality projects that improve field service productivity
  • Self-driven, able to identify system related issues and identify solutions with minimal guidance

Must Have (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required with a minimum of 2 years of product service and/or engineering product development experience
  • OR advance degree with a minimum of 0 years of product service and/or engineering product development experience

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Experience managing projects and/or PMP certification highly preferred
  • Experience with Lean processes and/or Lean Six Sigma certified
  • Experience with SAP and ServiceMax
  • Experience with engineering techniques, biomedical engineering and clinical practices and quality regulations, as well as reliability analysis and test methods
  • Knowledge of test methods, verification, and validation of medical device products
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle, from the conceptual stage through product launch to final obsolescence
  • Customer-focused (internal/external) with a proven track record of understanding customer needs and requirements while handling opportunities
  • Professional knowledge and experience in Quality Management System regulations, audits, and maintenance
  • Professional experience with customer conflict and complex situation resolution
  • Professional experience with both independent workstream management and team collaboration
  • Ability to adapt to and operate in remote circumstances
  • Experience with remote connectivity solutions
