Pay Information $2,218 per week About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Strong knowledge in MedSurg and Isolation precautions Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in medical surgical nursing. The unit consists of 18 beds, all private rooms due to infectious diseases. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, and it may change to 1:4 for COVID patients. Staffing typically includes 3-4 RNs per shift. The only required certification is BLS. The common types of patients include those with any and all infectious diseases such as Isolation, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff. Strong knowledge in MedSurg, infection control, and Isolation precautions is essential. Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Heparin and other typical MedSurg IV medications and antibiotics. A Charge Nurse is available 24/7 on the unit. The day Charge Nurse may take patients if necessary, while the night Charge Nurse always takes a full patient assignment. There are 2 CNA's per shift. Respiratory therapy equipment may include CPAP and BiPAP, but there are no vents. Remote telemetry is managed by techs on the third floor, and RN's do not have to read or interpret strips. Shifts are 12 hours long and can be scheduled from 0700 to 1930 or 1900 to 0730 with a 30-minute lunch break. Permanent staff self-schedules, while travelers will be scheduled based on the needs of the unit. Block scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met. Travelers are required to work every other weekend, with weekend shifts for nights on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holidays depend on the needs of the unit. Travelers may be expected to work holidays if there are not enough permanent staff to cover. Floating may be required to other MedSurg units, and travelers are typically the first to float. Scrub color is royal blue, and jackets, if worn, must be actual scrub jackets. Hoodies or sweat jackets are not permitted. Orientation includes one day of EPIC training, followed by one day of unit orientation with a preceptor. On the third day, the RN will work independently. The cancellation policy allows for the client to cancel two shifts per 13-week assignment.
