Description:

We are seeking a Chief Estimator to lead the preconstruction and estimating functions for a respected commercial construction company. Reporting to the VP of Construction, this role oversees the preparation of detailed project estimates and competitive bids while working closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors. The Chief Estimator plays a key role in shaping bid strategy, improving estimating processes, and maintaining the company's reputation for precision, professionalism, and teamwork.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor work.
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, and project documentation to develop complete, competitive bids.
  • Standardize estimating tools and processes to improve accuracy and consistency across projects.
  • Shape bid strategy and conduct cost and risk analyses for assigned opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to confirm scope, pricing, and scheduling alignment.
  • Support design development and value engineering efforts to identify cost-effective alternatives.
  • Manage the bid process from solicitation through proposal submission.
  • Analyze historical data and market trends to refine future estimates.
  • Partner with operations and finance teams on project setup, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Mentor junior estimators and provide ongoing technical guidance and leadership.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation preferred.
  • 2–10 years of experience in construction estimating, including senior or lead responsibility.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as Sage, WinEst, Procore or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and cost analysis.
  • Excellent ability to interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture and professional standards.


Compensation

  • $100,000 to $175,000, depending on experience, with bonus potential.
