Under the direct supervision of the Chief Building Official, the Chief Building Inspector manages, directs, and participates in the inspection of all building installations in the City of Gulfport, determining if plans, workmanship, and materials conform to Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances. Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring established standard building and/or zoning codes and regulations are complied with.

High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree in a construction or related field, with ten (10) years' work experience and experience in building design, with responsibility of construction or related field. Must have between three (3) to five (5) years experience in a supervisory capacity. Any combination of experience and/or education will be considered.
Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license. Multiple certifications by SBCCI/ICC. Must be an ICC certified Code Analyst. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 50+ pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment.
