Air Surveillance Specialist (Instructor)

As an Air Surveillance Specialist (Instructor), you will provide instructionally directed training for developing, upgrading, and evaluating skills of Air Surveillance Officer (ASO), Air Surveillance Technician (AST), Surveillance Technician (ST), Data-link Systems Technician (DST), and Interface Control Technician (ICT) crewmembers.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performing as instructor for the ASO, AST, ST, DST, and ICT crewmembers.
  • Ensuring training encompasses the full spectrum of theory, formal classroom and actual live, distributive and simulation missions on Battle Management Systems functions.
  • Performing as Standardization/Evaluation examiner for the ASO, AST, ST, DST, and ICT positions.
  • Serving as an Air Surveillance Technician (AST).
  • Displaying, interpreting, and discriminating between valid and invalid targets.
  • Operating and managing secure and unsecure communications nets with airborne and ground agencies.
  • Performing surveillance operations mission planning activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Conditions of employment:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Irregular and/or overtime hours may be required.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications:

National Guard membership is required. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

General experience: Experience, education, or training interpreting, explaining, and/or applying a variety of regulations and procedures. Experience using computer and automation systems.

Specialized experience: Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training arranging or procuring transportation for personnel, cargo or freight. Experience in nonroutine pre and post auditing of freight bills, bills of lading, and personnel transportation vouchers. Experience coordinating and negotiating with organizations/personnel both orally and in writing to resolve differences/problems. For positions requiring supervisory functions; experience which included responsibility for the supervision and management of personnel.

Education: No substitution of education for specialized experience.
