Description:

Overview

Position Summary:

FabTek Industries is a precision metal fabrication company headquartered in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, serving Tier-1 power and utility OEM customers across the electrical grid and energy infrastructure sectors. As FabTek scales, the company is establishing a dedicated compliance function to support its growing customer base, regulatory footprint, and quality systems.

The Compliance Manager is a key cross-functional leader responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company's enterprise compliance program across regulatory, customer, contractual, environmental, health and safety, and quality-systems domains. This role reports jointly to the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer and serves as the primary internal authority on compliance-related risk identification, mitigation, audit readiness, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented professional with deep experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, who can build durable processes from the ground up and partner effectively with operations, quality, purchasing, engineering, and human resources leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory & Industry Compliance:

  • Maintain and continuously improve FabTek's compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing manufacturing operations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality requirements
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements affecting precision metal fabrication and the power/energy infrastructure supply chain; translate changes into actionable internal policies and training
  • Oversee company response to regulatory inspections, audits, and inquiries; serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies
  • Maintain all required permits, licenses, and certifications and ensure timely renewals

Customer & Contractual Compliance:

  • Manage compliance obligations to Tier-1 power and utility OEM customers, including supplier code of conduct attestations, business ethics certifications, conflict minerals reporting (Dodd-Frank Section 1502), REACH and RoHS declarations, Prop 65 disclosures, and customer-specific quality and ethics requirements
  • Maintain supplier portal compliance across multiple customer portals, ensuring on-time submission of certifications, insurance certificates, audit responses, scorecards, and ESG/sustainability questionnaires
  • Support customer-driven audits — including supplier qualification audits, quality system audits, process audits, and source inspections — and act as the central coordinator for documentation, corrective action plans, and follow-up
  • Manage country-of-origin compliance, including Buy American Act, Build America Buy America (BABA), and Trade Agreements Act (TAA) certifications where required by utility, federal, or infrastructure end-customers
  • Review nondisclosure agreements, supplier agreements, master purchase agreements, terms and conditions, and certifications for compliance implications; coordinate with outside counsel as needed
  • Track and report on contractual obligations and flow-down requirements to subcontractors and suppliers, including ITAR/EAR export-control screening where applicable
  • Support cybersecurity-related supplier obligations as OEMs increasingly flow down NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, or equivalent requirements to manufacturing suppliers

Quality Systems & Industry Standards:

  • Partner with the Quality team to maintain and continuously improve the company's ISO 9001 quality management system, including internal audit programs, management reviews, document control, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes
  • Support compliance with industry-specific standards applicable to power and utility OEM supply, including ASME, ANSI, AWS (D1.1 structural welding, D1.6 stainless), AISC, NEMA, UL, and IEEE standards as required by customer specifications
  • Support compliance with IEEE standards relevant to electrical equipment fabrication and the transmission and distribution market (e.g., IEEE C57 transformer series, IEEE C37 switchgear series) where flowed down by customers
  • Maintain welder qualifications, weld procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with AWS and ASME Section IX requirements
  • Coordinate material traceability, mill test reports (MTRs), and certificates of conformance (CoCs) to meet customer flow-down requirements
  • Support nondestructive examination (NDE) and inspection program compliance, including coordination with Level II/III inspectors where required
  • Maintain readiness for future certifications as customer or market demand requires (e.g., ISO 14001 environmental, ISO 45001 safety, AS9100 aerospace, IATF 16949 automotive)
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective action documentation for nonconformances raised by customers, third-party auditors, or internal reviews; ensure 8D and PPAP-style responses where required

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS):

  • Coordinate with plant leadership in Hazlehurst to ensure compliance with OSHA recordkeeping, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, machine safeguarding, PPE, and other safety standards relevant to metal fabrication operations
  • Maintain SDS library, chemical inventories, and air/water/waste permit reporting in coordination with operations
  • Support incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and workers' compensation compliance reporting
  • Lead or co-lead the Safety Committee and drive measurable improvements in safety performance metrics

Policy, Training & Culture:

  • Own the company's compliance policy library — including code of conduct, anti-harassment, whistleblower, conflict of interest, gift and entertainment, and information security policies — ensuring policies are current, accessible, and consistently enforced
  • Design and deliver annual compliance training for all employees, with role-specific training for purchasing, sales, operations, and human resources
  • Administer the company's confidential reporting (hotline) mechanism and lead investigations of compliance concerns, working with leadership, human resources, and outside counsel as appropriate
  • Champion a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability across all FabTek locations

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive compliance, quality, EHS, or regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple compliance domains (regulatory, customer, contractual, EHS, or quality) in a multi-stakeholder organization
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, OSHA, EPA, and the regulatory environment applicable to U.S. manufacturing operations
  • Familiarity with industry standards relevant to metal fabrication, including ASME, ANSI, AWS, and IEEE
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write clear policies, audit responses, and executive-level summaries
  • High personal integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and document management systems
  • Ability to work on-site in Jackson, Mississippi, and travel to the Hazlehurst, Mississippi facility regularly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental science, quality management, legal studies, or a related field
  • Experience supporting customers in the power grid, electrical equipment, transmission and distribution, or heavy industrial equipment sectors
  • Direct experience navigating Tier-1 power and utility OEM supplier qualification programs, supplier portals, and audit cycles
  • Familiarity with AWS welding certifications, ASME Section IX, NDE programs, and material traceability requirements (MTRs, CoCs)
  • Working knowledge of IEEE, NEMA, UL, and ANSI standards as applied to electrical equipment manufacturing
  • Experience with country-of-origin compliance frameworks (Buy American Act, BABA, TAA) and export controls (ITAR/EAR)
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 or CMMC cybersecurity frameworks as flowed down to manufacturing suppliers
  • Professional certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent
  • Experience implementing or administering compliance management software, learning management systems, or document control platforms

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

The Compliance Manager will spend time in both office and manufacturing plant environments. While in the plant, the employee will be required to wear appropriate PPE and may be exposed to noise, machinery, and conditions typical of a precision metal fabrication operation.
