Description:

Help empower students with visual impairments to thrive in their educational journey! A dedicated professional is needed for an exciting contract opportunity as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This pivotal role is located near Gulfport, MS and offers the chance to work closely with students, educators, and families to ensure each learner receives the support and accommodations they need to succeed.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairments or eligibility to obtain one
  • Experience working in a school-based setting supporting students with visual impairments
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including general education and special education staff
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Passion for fostering independence and academic growth in students with visual challenges
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Adapt curriculum and classroom materials for accessibility, including Braille transcription and use of low vision tools
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family members to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to ongoing student evaluations
  • Support staff training and facilitate understanding of visual impairment-specific strategies
