Quality Improvement Intern

This 8-12 week position provides undergraduate level students with an opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in health services administration/management, research, or policy. Students gain a better appreciation for the pressures that affect decision-making in today's healthcare environment and are able to identify additional skills they will need to better prepare them for a rewarding career in health care administration.

The Quality Improvement Intern will support the NHMG Clinical Excellence team in advancing quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives across ambulatory clinics. This internship provides hands-on exposure to healthcare quality improvement work, including data-informed decision-making, clinic-facing education, and system-level improvement efforts. The role is designed to provide meaningful professional experience while building foundational skills in healthcare quality and performance improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives across NHMG clinics, including care gap closure and performance improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Data Analytics, Patient Safety, Health Equity, and Value-Based Care teams
  • Help populate, review, and interpret quality performance data and dashboards to support improvement efforts
  • Participate in meetings, workgroups, and learning opportunities to gain exposure to healthcare quality improvement in practice
  • Complete special projects aligned with intern interests, team priorities, and organizational goals
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare quality, patient safety, or performance improvement
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies
Program Details
  • Internship term: 6-8 week commitment, Summer or Fall
  • Compensation: $ 17-20/hour
  • Work schedule: Part-time, with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules
  • Location: Remote
