Compliance Inspector

This position will serve as the Compliance Inspector for assigned regions in South Mississippi. Compliance inspectors work remotely but are directly under the supervision and direction of MSBC and its Executive Director, or her/his appointed designee. This is journey level work accountable for scheduling and conducting initial, annual, random, renewal and follow-up inspections of assigned businesses or professions to assure conformity with applicable state laws or rules and regulations. At this level, employees will verify licensure of professionals and businesses and inspect and review business for compliance with health and safety standards as it relates to licensure requirements and is directly accountable to the MSBC.

Additional duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Travel to sights across Mississippi to perform inspections of establishments or other investigations as assigned by MSBC.
  • Prepare detailed written reports of all inspections and investigations, and submission of said reports to the MSBC within seven (7) days of the completion of the investigation. Such reports must follow the established MSBC format and must be prepared in a manner that will support any subsequent legal activities that could lead to prosecution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must demonstrate sound judgement, exhibit a high level of integrity, ethics, honesty and transparency. The candidate must also be able to work independently, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, public relations skills with an ability to interact with the public, critical thinking and problem resolution skills, investigative skills, and be willing to work as a vital team member supporting the overall function and mission of the agency. Candidate must be familiar with software such as Microsoft Office and have reliable internet. Candidate must have a drivers license and reliable transportation.

Typically requires High school equivalency and 1-3 years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: This position typically requires a high school education and one (1) to three (3) years' experience in site inspection. Preference will be given to those with experience working in inspections, investigations, law enforcement, or a military background. Preference will be given to candidates residing in the following counties: Lamar, Forrest, Perry, Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison, Strong, Jackson, Walthall, Lawrence, Jones, Covington, and Jefferson Davis.
