Position: IDEA Bus Aide

Reports To: Director of Operations and Transportation Supervisor

Qualifications:

• Must meet and abide by the rules and requirements as defined by the District Transportation Handbook
• Must be organized, personable, cooperative and responsive to the needs of student passengers
• Must consent to mandatory drug and alcohol testing per School Board Policy GBRM 2 R.
• Must consent to a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Background Record Check as per School Board Policy GBD/GCD
• Good physical condition with ability to lift 40 pounds

Job Goal: To assist the school bus driver in transporting IDEA (special education) students to and from school.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Assist the bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchairs and provide assistance to other students who may require it.
• Ensure that students are seated and restrained, if necessary.
• Ensure that wheelchairs remain properly secured and students secured within wheelchairs.
• Continuously observe passengers for signs of medical problems.
• Administer first aid, if necessary.
• Assist in evacuating the school bus to include physically carrying students off the bus, if necessary.
• Perform other such duties as the administration may deem appropriate and necessary; carrying out all duties efficiently, promptly, and independently.
• Attend mandatory in-service training.

Terms of Employment: 181 days Classified Non-Exempt

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the supervising administrator.
