West Jackson County Utility District is seeking an equipment operator for water/sewer repairs and taps. 3-5 years’ previous utility repair experience required. CDL License a plus.

Alone or in conjunction with other WJCUD personnel performs a wide variety of maintenance activities. Must have experience operating a mini excavator and backhoe in order to ensure proper operation. Troubleshoots, disassembles, repairs, and returns equipment to operation when malfunctions occur. Clears clogged equipment and piping. Adjusts critical tolerances of operating equipment. Becomes familiar with and follows all safety regulations. Keep job sites clean. Completes paperwork required to document maintenance and purchasing activities. Responds to emergency problems after normal work hours. Skilled in electrical control panels a plus. The Equipment Operator must maintain confidentiality, behave in a professional manner and maintain a good working relationship with the Commissioners, Managers, and other employees. The Equipment Operator will perform any other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.


Related course work in military service, vocational/technical and or water/wastewater schools. Industrial maintenance field and or pump operations experience highly desirable. 3-5 years’ experience in operating a mini excavator and backhoe required. Work experience in water line installation and repair, meter reading, meter installation, sewer, fire hydrant repair and replacement a plus.


  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying medium loads.
  • Must have normal color vision.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs to service equipment.
  • Must receive Hepatitis vaccinations.
  • Must be able to work at heights or in tight quarters.
  • Must be able to work in wastewater environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable in troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Must be neat and clean in appearance.
  • Must be able to interact with customers and present a positive image.
  • Must have good driving record and be insurable on WJCUD’s auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work after hours as needed.
  • Valid State of Mississippi Commercial driver’s license (Class “B” or higher) preferred.
  • Must have ability to be bondable.
