GIS/GPS TECHNICIAN

West Jackson County Utility District seeking a GIS/GPS Technician. Experience with GPR and line locate equipment required. Outstanding opportunity for a self-motivated individual with excellent work ethic. Will train the “right” candidate.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:

Alone or in conjunction with other WJCUD personnel performs a variety of GIS/GPS activities. Must have good computer skills and ability to be trained on the GIS software. Accuracy and attention to detail is needed to succeed as a GIS/GPS Technician. Must be available for emergency locates periodically within an on-call rotation. Must become familiar with and follow all safety regulations. The GIS/GPS Technician will complete paperwork required to document all activities. The GIS/GPS Technician must maintain confidentiality, behave in a professional manner and maintain a good working relationship with the Commissioners, Managers, and other employees. The GIS/GPS Technician will perform any other duties as assigned by the GIS Operations Manager.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Related course work in military service, vocational/technical and or water/wastewater schools. Previous line locate experience required. Experience with GIS programs a plus.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE (But are not limited to):

  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying medium loads.
  • Must have normal color vision.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs to service equipment.
  • Must receive Hepatitis vaccinations.
  • Must be able to work at heights or in tight quarters.
  • Must be able to work in wastewater environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable in troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Must be neat and clean in appearance.
  • Must be able to interact with customers and present a positive image.
  • Must have good driving record and be insurable on WJCUD’s auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work after hours as needed.
